PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Touring the West Indies and Asia in July
JCI President Kwemain started his July trips off in the West Indies, where members in Kingston, Jamaica greeted him. His encouraged members to embrace the Impact of One and how JCI Local Organizations are in a special position to partner with government, business and other organizations to help solve community problems. President Kwemain also visited JCI France in the French Caribbean and JCI Haiti.

President Kwemain’s journeys in late July took him to Tsukuba, Japan, where the JCI Academy was held. He then made his way to JCI Nepal and JCI Pakistan, where he met with national officers and Local Organization presidents. President Kwemain focused on the JCI Mission and Vision during a press conference with the media at the Hotel Everest in Nepal. He ended his July schedule in Göteburg, Sweden for the JCI European Academy.

Saving Lives and Building Partnerships in June
In June, President Kwemain, along with fellow JCI members, helped save more than 600 lives by participating the Duck Race Against Malaria along the Aarhus River at the 2010 JCI European Conference. The President also attended the 2010 JCI Asia-Pacific Conference in Singapore, where he praised many Local Organizations for making commitments to raising funds for JCI Nothing But Nets.

After President Kwemain participated in the two JCI Area Conferences, he made his way back to the United States to participate in the JCI Global Partnership Summit and the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit, both in New York City. The JCI Executive Committee Meeting immediately followed, taking place at JCI World Headquarters in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Secrets to Making a Difference with JCI
Whenever I visit a JCI Local or National Organization, I talk about the Impact of One and how all JCI members have the power to make a positive change in their communities. I also talk about teamwork, collaboration and becoming more globally engaged so that we can combine our power to bring that change to the international level.

I know that JCI members are a very talented, special group of people who care about making the world a better place, and it inspires me to continue to spread my message of hope and change.

But very often members will ask me “President Kwemain, what is the secret to being a great JCI member? What must we do to create the positive change the world needs?” I say to them that one of the great things about JCI is that we make it very easy to get the lessons and resources necessary for making a great impact, and we don’t keep it a secret.

JCI keeps all of the resources available to members in every country in the world on the JCI.cc website. If you want to create change by starting a project to raise funds for JCI Nothing But Nets, there is a toolkit for that. If you want to encourage local businesses to thrive through a JCI Best Business Plan Competition, there is a toolkit for that. There is also even a toolkit if you do not have a JCI Local Organization in your area and want to start one of your own.

Every year, JCI holds four Area Conferences, one for every geographical region where JCI members work. These events are the perfect places to develop the skills you have learned through the resources online and through the toolkits. Featuring training courses, discussion forums and competitions, the Area Conferences help foster growth based on the information available online.

Finally, the annual JCI World Congress is a culmination of the work of members at the Area Conferences and in their communities. We host this event every year to give members the opportunity to show their skill in events like the World Debate Championship and to make new friends and important contacts for future collaboration.

There is no secret to success in JCI and to creating powerful change, but it is up to you, the members, to take advantage of all the opportunities you are provided. It is up to you to hone your skills and become the leader you need to be to create a lasting positive impact.

Be sure to register for the 2010 JCI World Congress, download the helpful toolkits and share your JCI success stories on the JCI Facebook page.
